Services Provided

Annual and Preventative exams

Valley Health Physician Alliance is pleased to offer annual and preventative gynecological exams. Annual exams typically include a Pap smear, breast and pelvic exams and urine sample collection. Your doctor may also order blood tests if necessary. These tests help doctors determine the presence of STDs or other infections and are a key step in the early detection of more serious diseases, like cancer.

  • Pap smear: A screening procedure used to detect cancerous or precancerous cells in the cervix or colon. Doctors use a small brush to remove cells from the surface of the cervix to test under a microscope. Abnormal cells may suggest the presence of cervical cancer or that the patient is at risk for developing cancer in the future.

If your doctor detects precancerous cells, they will help you come up with preventive measures to slow the progression.

Obstetrics and gynecology doctors typically recommend women have their first Pap smear by age 21. Women should typically repeat this test every 3-5 years. Certain risk factors, like a family history of cervical cancer, may suggest more frequent testing.

  • STD Testing: Sexually transmitted diseases get passed through intimate contact. They can endanger your reproductive health, and in some cases, your overall well-being. The good news is that with early detection, most patients can be treated quickly and effectively.
